Panic + Phantom Planet = Best Concert Tour EVER?
Woah! Holy bejezus! Well I just *happen* to be watching a promo video for the new Panic at the Disco tour (they have a new album dropping later this year) when my jaw nearly hit the floor:
PHANTOM PLANET IS TOURING WITH PANIC AT THE DISCO!! WHAAAAHHT?
I’d always grouped Phantom Planet in the indie pop-rock category, having seen them play medium-sized rock clubs with bands like Superdrag and since disbanded New York band The Realistics since 2001. The last time I saw them was in 2004 at Irving Plaza while they were Jason Schwartzman-less and promoting their self-titled album.
So you can understand my shock when I heard Panic’s Brenden Urie uttering “Phantom Planet” in that video: 1. I couldn’t believe that Phantom Planet was still around and 2. Why they hell are they touring with Panic, Motion City Soundtrack, and The Hush Sound?

Panic at the Disco Release New Lyrics
Panic at the Disco have posted the lyrics of 5 of the songs off their upcoming album, Pretty. Odd., dropping March 25th. The lyrics include the words to “We’re So Starving”, “She’s a Handsome Woman”, “That Green Gentleman”, “Mad as Rabbits”, and the first single off the new LP, “Nine in the Afternoon.”
Panic! at the Disco Changes Name to… Panic at the Disco
Panic! at the Disco, we hardly new ya! According to Rolling Stone’s Rock Daily blog, the formerly emphatic quartet will be officially dropping the exclamation point from the correct spelling of their band name.
Sadly I will now have to abbreviate the band name as P@TD or PATD instead of the way more fun “P!@TD” or simply “Panic!”
Their second album, Pretty. Odd. will be released on March 25th on Decaydence/Fueled by Ramen.
Panic Previews “We’re So Starving”
The Panic! boys have delivered a Happy New Year tune for y’all. You can now hear a rough version of a new Panic! at the Disco song, “We’re So Starving,” up on their official Myspace page.
The song apologizes for having been “gone so long” and that they were “busy writing songs for you.”

YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY…
Dear friends,
It’s great to talk to you again. It has been quite a while since we have let you know what we’ve been up to. Recording over the last six months has been an amazing experience, and we couldn’t be more excited to show all of you what we’ve been working on.Over the next 5 days we will finish in the studio at home and make our way to Abbey Road Studios in London (which truly is a dream come true for us). There, we will record all of the strings, horns, whatchyamacallit’s, and so on. Then, we will mix the record at Abbey Road as well.
But before we do all that, we wanted to give you something for all of your patience over the last year. So we’ve posted a rough version of a new song titled, ‘Were So Starving’ (it’s at the last song in the player below). This is not the final mix or version of the song, and it will undergo some change while we’re in London, but we wanted to show you something from what we’ve done so far. Hope you enjoy.
Until next time - Panic At The Disco
Holla Atcha, Tyson Ritter and Edmond Records
Some more good news from my friends, THE UPWELLING have just signed to record their first album on the newly created Edmond Records, an imprint of Warner Brothers and Doghouse. Oh, and guess who happen hand-pick them as one of the first bands to the label–none other than Mr. TYSON RITTER of the ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS. Boo-yah! Check them out before they become superstars.
Brendon Urie = Brandon Flowers?
Sorry I’ve been lagging on the updates but my free time is down to zilch lately.
Here are some interesting photos of Brendon Urie looking a helluva lot like Brandon Flowers with his skinny blazer, skinny tie, and big ol’ dork glasses (Thanks to Rebecca):

Swimsuits! at the Disco aka Why Is Ryan Ross Not In Briefs?
Have you SEEN the photos of the Panic! at the Disco boys with model Julie Henderson for the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated? Have you SEEN how ridiculous they are?
I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to make the swimsuit issue the “music” issue… they have a whole series of seemingly random pairings of musical artists with random model chicks in bikinis. Now if they had the boys in swimsuits as well, now THAT’s a feature I can get behind. Why is it, of all the musicians they pegged for this swimsuit issue it is ONLY the ONE female artists they picked (Beyonce) that appears in a skimpy swimsuit. The closest the male musicians come to being in briefs is Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, but how is that fair? You couldn’t PAY that man enough to actually wear a shirt that fully clothed his torso. Oh and Jimmy Buffet in a surfer body suit does NOT count. (Nor should it be allowed.)
I CALL BULLCRAP AND SEXISM ON SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.

Muwahahaha! Panic! at the Disco on the Cover of Rolling Stone
First I saw My Chem on SPIN, now THIS! Me very happy this week. Sorry if I’m kinda behind but uh… I never read Rolling Stone. Go ahead, read an excerpt from Panic!’s cover story.

I’m usually a Ryan Ross kinda girl, but I gots to give mad props to Brendon Urie for turning up the heat to the point of my brain becoming an inferno.

Kinda Like “Sophie’s Choice”, and Just as Emo…and Partying with Pete on NYE
You know that pivotal scene in the movie Sophie’s Choice where Meryl Streep’s character (Sophie, obvs) has to decide which of her children she is going to save? She’s looking around all scared, terrified, and confused–her heart simply breaking at the prospect of sacrificing one child for the other?
That’s kinda how I feel about the Fall Out Boy vs Panic! at the Disco New Years Eve dilemma we’ve all be posed with this year. FOB will be on MTV’s “Stay Gold” show in their Times Square Studios and Panic! will be on Carson “Old Face” Daly’s NBC extravaganza. I can just see myself, remote in hand, flipping between the channels with a mild amount of fear in my heart, hoping I don’t miss either one.
Anyhoo, those staying in NYC will find this little post quite interesting… Numer One Socialite Tinsley Mortimer will host a NYE party at chic Manhattan restaurant Japonais with “special guests” Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco. For a mere 175-350 dollars, you too can ring in 2007 by watching Pete Wentz talk to someone else (not you) on his Sidekick. Sounds like fuuuuuuunnnn. Check out the “Killer” animated invitation. And buy tickets right here.

Also get your “untz-untz” on with Petey during his DJ set at Webster Hall on Saturday at Webster Hall. (Link from the FOB Boards)

I’m suddenly so relieved I’m leaving town this weekend. I dunno about you, but I don’t want to ring in 2007 by stalking Pete Wentz.
Happy Birthday, Jesse
May every day be a birthday turd cake day!

Oh and in totally unrealted news, a pretty cool photoshoot that Panic! at the Disco did where they were given a shutter release cord for the camera and allowed to take their own photos for a German magazine pictorial.
