The Modern Age Wins a 2008 Shockwave NME Award

As of tonight I have a lot in common with the Arctic Monkeys, Kate Nash, the Klaxons, and Facebook. We are all 2008 Shockwave NME Award WINNERS! Muwahahah.

YOUR VOTING was the key in helping this lil’ ol’ blog win a 2008 Shockwave NME Award for Best Music Blog.

I would like to thank YOU, the people who have faithfully visited my labor of love since 2001. Thanks for putting up with all my stupid posts about the White Stripes (who could forget the “Jack White in a bathing suit” post or “Meg White’s Disco Boobs” entry?), Ryan Adams (he loves puppies, remember?), and everyone else who created music pre-2003. Thanks again guys, couldn’t have done it without you.

If and when I receive my golden middle finger statue I will surely post photos.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson: Self-Proclaimed Assholes

Pete Wentz just posted a video of himself and his lady love, Ashlee Simpson, making fun of celebrity folk (perhaps the Spears sisters?) doing something for the world by making babies.

In one telling scene, Ashlee screams to Pete to get her the Cheetos and then they go on to say that they will be having a little rascal in 9 months.

Not sure why this was necessary…

Panic Previews “We’re So Starving”

The Panic! boys have delivered a Happy New Year tune for y’all. You can now hear a rough version of a new Panic! at the Disco song, “We’re So Starving,” up on their official Myspace page.

The song apologizes for having been “gone so long” and that they were “busy writing songs for you.”

YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY…

Dear friends,
It’s great to talk to you again. It has been quite a while since we have let you know what we’ve been up to. Recording over the last six months has been an amazing experience, and we couldn’t be more excited to show all of you what we’ve been working on.

Over the next 5 days we will finish in the studio at home and make our way to Abbey Road Studios in London (which truly is a dream come true for us). There, we will record all of the strings, horns, whatchyamacallit’s, and so on. Then, we will mix the record at Abbey Road as well.

But before we do all that, we wanted to give you something for all of your patience over the last year. So we’ve posted a rough version of a new song titled, ‘Were So Starving’ (it’s at the last song in the player below). This is not the final mix or version of the song, and it will undergo some change while we’re in London, but we wanted to show you something from what we’ve done so far. Hope you enjoy.

Until next time - Panic At The Disco

My Chem Premieres “Teenagers” Video

Watch it now on MTV.com.

…or right here:

“Teenagers” is one of my favorite songs off of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade. This video isn’t as great as The Black Parade, but whatevs. It’s by Marc Webb, who has directed a shizton of amazing videos for My Chem as well as one of my most favorite videos of the last few years, “Move Along” by the All-American Rejects.

Essential Guide to All Things Emo, Everybody Hurts, Now Out!

Do you like eyeliner, feeling sad, looking at your feet, wearing hoodies, and Manic Panic? Do you adore AAR, FOB, TAI…, GCH, P!@TD, or AFI? Do you have any idea what any of those abbreviations mean? If so, you HAVE to check out Leslie Simon (managing editor of Alternative Press) and Trevor Kelley’s new book, Everybody Hurts, a light-humored take on the emo culture.

I had a chance to read it a few months ago and it is HIL-arious! There’s this one illustration of Pete Wentz wearing a Clandestine Industries sweatshirt, giving the diamond sign. That alone is worth the $12-14 sticker price. Trust me, you will loves.

Oh! And if you be in NYC on May 3rd, stop by the Everybody Hurts party at the Annex. Justin Pierre from Motion City Soundtrack, Kenny Vasoli from the Starting Line, and Zolof The Rock ‘N’ Roll Destroyer are all playing.

Pete Wentz Opens New Bar Angels & Kings in NYC. Stolen Transmission Takes Over on Fridays

Pete Wentz has ventured into the bar business, by launching his very own watering hole, called Angles & Kings (or AK-47 for short), on 11th Street near Avenue A in New York City’s East Village. He wants to make his new emo-lush magnet into a place where he and his misfit music buddies can hang out without worrying about velvet ropes or Clandestine-clad mall girls. Says Wentz to New York magazine, “This is a bar for all the rejects.”

The establishment is scheduled to open next week around April 30th, and starting on May 4th, nightlife party starters Tarts of Pleasure will be hosting their popular Stolen Transmission night for free every Friday evening.

To get a sneak peek at the space, check out the photo of The Academy Is… manning the bar in New York mag.
